FAQ/How to Purchase

If you are interested in purchasing any of my work, please contact me at colleenmorriswilson2@gmail.com

I would be happy to arrange for you to see the piece, or to see more detailed photographs.

Please note that all requests will be handled on a first come, first served basis, and that the purchase price includes  taxes and shipping and handling.

How is your work mounted and where do you get your frames?
All of my fabric art is mounted on wooden gallery style frames and have a backing sewn on, which includes a label with information such as the name of the piece and the date it was completed.
My husband makes all of my frames for me.  They are made out of white pine (1½ x ¾ ), glued and then nailed.  He makes them to exact measurements, and I have a number of pre-made frames on hand for emergencies and gift projects.

What do you do use to embellish your fabric art?
Depending on the project, I use 3mm glass pearls, 3mm Swarovski crystals, 6ss hot fix Swarovski crystals, garnet chip polished beads, polished amber chips, peridot, jade and other semi-precious stones.   On occasion, if requested for a commissioned piece, I will use real pearls and other stones such as emerald, sapphire and ruby chips.

What kind of fabric do you use?
I use 100% cotton for most of my pieces, however on occasion I will also use silk, especially for my alcohol ink painting, as it has a wonderful texture.  It is miserable to work with as it ravels, but it is worth it.

Where do your ideas come from?
My ideas come from everywhere.  Sometimes I find the idea in the fabric itself, and some times I will see a picture of something, somewhere, and say to myself “That’s a good idea to use to create a piece of fabric art”, and file the idea away.   Then, I’ll just keep the idea in the back of my head until I find the piece fabric that I need to create my piece of fabric art.  When I find the right fabric, the idea just comes forward at that time.  The finished piece is never the same as the original picture, and may not even have any of the elements of the original picture.

Each piece of my fabric art is unique and cannot be duplicated.  If I have additional fabric, which does happen on occasion, I am sometimes able to create a second piece, but it will not be a duplicate, as I do not refer to the original.

How do you create your designs?
I have a large sewing area in my basement, and a movable design wall 4’ x 7’.  This allows me to mount my completed canvases (The backgrounds that I develop) and then move the cut out appliques around until the design is complete.  Once this part is finished, I can iron the applique on permanently, without removing the fabric art from the board, as it is heat resistant. When the mood takes me, I can hang and work with up to 4 canvases at one time.
